The Residence Permit is a document issued by the Regional Border and Migration Office, which authorizes and allows a foreigner to stay and work in the Republic of Albania for a long-term or permanent period. No foreign citizen (except American citizens) could stay in Albanian territory for more than 90 days within 180 days without obtaining a Residence Permit.

The reasons for which you can be granted a Residence Permit includes but is not limited to:

  • Self-employment
  • Employment
  • Family reunion
  • Study
  • Digital Nomad
  • Ownership of a real estate property
  • Retirement, etc.

Please see below details for each of them:

A Digital Nomad is a foreign national who works remotely from various countries, not tied to a specific office or headquarters. Their work primarily involves the use of information technology tools.

-Required Documents:

  • Service Contract
  • Accommodation contracts in Albania
  • Diploma

 

A Student is a foreign national admitted to a higher education institution in the Republic of Albania to pursue a full study program, leading to higher education qualifications such as diplomas, certificates, or a doctoral degree. This may also include preliminary preparation courses, as per national legislation or mandatory training requirements.

-Required Documents:

  • Language certificate (for the language of study)
  • University acceptance document
  • Proof of university fee payment for the academic year
  • Lease agreement
  • Bank statement

 

An Intra-Company Transferee is an individual employed by a legal entity outside Albania who has been temporarily transferred to a branch, department, or sector within the Republic of Albania. The transfer must follow a continuous six-month employment or partnership period immediately preceding the transfer.

-Required Documents:

  • Lease agreement
  • Employment contract
  • Degree
  • Declaration or agreement between both companies regarding the transfer

 

An Employee is an individual who agrees to perform a job or service for another party, which can be a person or a company, in exchange for payment.

-Required Documents:

  • Work contract with an Albanian company
  • Accommodation contract
  • Diploma

 

A Self-Employed individual is someone with an economic interest and capital to implement a business idea that is expected to positively impact the economy.

-Required Documents:

  • Business plan
  • Diplomas
  • Accommodation statement
  • Proof of registration at the National Business Center

 

Family Reunification allows family members of Albanian citizens or legally residing foreigners to enter and stay in the Republic of Albania to preserve family unity, regardless of whether the family relationship was established before or after the foreigner’s entry.

-Required Documents:

  • Family certificate
  • Accommodation contract

 

Real Estate Ownership in the Republic of Albania permits a foreign citizen to obtain a residence permit by proving ownership of real estate, in compliance with current legislation.

-Required Documents:

  • Ownership certificate
  • Bank statement
  • Individual declaration on the motive of stay
  • Health insurance policy

 

A Pensioner/retirement residence is an individual who has obtained pensioner status under the laws of their home country and seeks to apply for a residence permit for pensioners in Albania.

-Required Documents:

  • Albanian health insurance policy
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Official document proving annual pension income
  • Lease agreement verifying accommodation in Albania
